Term 1 Sports Report

House Captains

Finally, after a year of limited representative sport we are now finally able to have students compete in a variety of activities. Term one saw a busy start to the year with the swimming carnival, (yes, we had fine weather) and many trials for individual and team sports at a school, zone, regional and state level.

REPRESENTATIVE TRIALS

Swimming

Week 3 saw students aged 8-13yrs compete in our school swimming carnival. Although no school records were broken many PBs were achieved and 27 students were selected to participate in the zone carnival at Alstonville. From the zone carnival, four students were selected to attend the regional carnival in Coffs Harbour with one student, Tyler, progressing to the State championships to be held in Sydney. He competed in in the backstroke and freestyle in the multicategory class and was placed fifth and ninth while also establishing new personal best times by significantly reducing his previous times.

Cross Country

It was wonderful to have families back in the school being able to watch children participate and compete in sport. Our initial cross-country day was washed out and although there was rain on the horizon for our second attempt, we ended up with beautiful running weather. Unfortunately, COVID struck again and several students were unable to compete on the day and will have the opportunity early next term to run the course. Our school team of 48 students will then be finalised for the zone trials, held at Corndale, in May.

Tennis

Three boys attended the Northern Rivers zone tennis trials in Lismore. Unfortunately, none were successful in their attempts at being selected to attend the regional trials.

Cricket

Three boys and three girls attended the zone cricket trials in Lismore. Four students, two boys and two girls progressed to the regional trials in Coffs Harbour with a Harrison and Ruby selected to represent the North Coast at the State Championships to be held in October. Our school cricket team also won the first round of the PSSA knockout competition allowing them to progress further in the draw.

Soccer

Five boys and two girls were selected to trail for the zone soccer team on the synthetic pitch at East Lismore. Of these, three boys and one girl were successful and will now represent the zone at the regional trials.

Basketball

Six boys and four girls participated in the zone basketball trials held at GSAC. Four of the boys and two of the girls were selected in the zone team to participate in the regional trials which were held at Yamba.

AFL

One student was selected in the zone team to participate in the regional trials in Coffs Harbour. He was unsuccessful in his attempts to represent the North Coast at the State championships.

Hockey

Eight girls and one boy were nominated to participate in the zone trials held in Goonellabah. All the students were selected to participate in the regional trials to be held in Grafton.

Rugby League

One student was selected to participate in the Open Boys’ rugby league trials held in Kyogle. He demonstrated great skills, attitude and effort which resulted him being selected to represent the Northern Rivers in the North Coast trials in Coffs Harbour early next term.

Development Clinics

Along with representative sports, our students all participate in regular sporting activities at school. They often have opportunities to receive expert coaching in a variety of areas. This term, students in Years 1-4 had the opportunity to participate in tee-ball clinics run by local tee-ball coaches and some students in Years 3-6 received coaching from a NSW development officer and North Coast Academy of Sport in hockey.
