NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee) is celebrated at a school and community level each year. Our school celebrates by holding a full day of activities to help celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal people. The school celebration starts with a Welcome to Country, flag raising ceremony, performances by our students and community and announcing the recipient of the Aliya King Leadership Award. Students then break into groups and rotate through a variety of activities aimed at educating and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. For the remainder of the week, students engage in on Country excursion with local Elders and community members to support understanding of local culture and caring for Country for all students.
Aboriginal students also attend the community NAIDOC celebrations each year providing an opportunity to connect with the local community of schools.
