Could you stand up and argue in front of an audience and a judge? This is what eight of our students did on Tuesday in the first and second rounds of the Premier's Debating Challenge. The Persuaders and the Arguers debated each other first with the Persuaders being the affirmative team and the topic being That all schoolwork should be done on computers. It was a tight debate with some strong arguments made by both teams, however the Persuaders narrowly won. In their second debate, the Arguers debated Woodenbong Central School and they were the Affirmative team with the topic being That all homework should be banned for primary students. In their second debate, the Persuaders debated Empire Vale Public school. The Persuaders were the affirmative team and the topic was That all homework and assignments should be group work. Both teams improved from their first debates demonstrating stronger arguments, increased rebuttals and had greater teamwork. Both teams won their second debates. The teams will have two more debates in early Term 3.
PERSUADERS: Caitlyn, Kiya, Lucinda and Retrouvailles
ARGUERS: Logan, Max, Georgina and Emilie
Thank you to our two time keepers and chair people, Amarli and Isabell who did a fantastic job controlling six debates.
