WRPS student, Matthew, was part of the Far North Coast Timberjacks Baseball Team that travelled to Sydney over the Easter Weekend for the Baseball NSW Little League Country State Championships. The boys had some close games, including the grand final game, where they scored the winning run in the bottom of the last innings. The other "country" teams included Central Coast, Newcastle and Illawarra. To be successful at this level, drawing from a smaller population pool, is pretty impressive.
The same team then competed over the long weekend in the Australian Little League National Titles. The top sixteen teams across Australia competed for the chance to go to the USA and then compete against the best teams in the world. While the team was very excited to even get to the Nationals, they were even more impressed that they placed 7th overall! This is the best result ever for a Far North Coast team. On top of this pretty amazing effort, they were also awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament. Congratulations Matthew!
