Stage 1 Excursion

To enrich the learning within our integrated unit, ‘Footprints from the Past’ the Stage 1 students trekked through the history of our local area on Monday, 1 April. We explored Widjabul culture and language along the Wilson River where we learnt about the traditional owners and their practices. We were transported into a rainforest environment when we entered the Information Centre investigating and learning about the wildlife that lives in and around Lismore. We learnt about the Lismore Norco Factory and studied the Ballina Street Bridge. We explored the use of triangles as a strong shape when building bridges. We counted 152 triangles on the Ballina Street Bridge. See if you can complete the challenge and find them all!

The museum was a highlight with students teleported back to the 1800's. They learnt some interesting facts about our local area and saw pictures of Lismore’s early town centre. We lunched and played at Heritage Park and at the end of the day our feet were sore but our minds were full of the rich history of Lismore. Select the link to view more photos: Stage 1 Excursion.
