Starlab Planetarium Incursion

A new event for WRPS and a fantastic one at that. The Stage 2 and 3 children enjoyed walking through the entrance of the blue 'igloo' and were mesmerised with the presentation of our solar system all around them.

Sasha (5/6B) reflected on her experience: As excitement tore through our bodies and tickled our bones we lined up to see the amazing planetarium. Once we stepped inside the inflatable all you could hear was “Wow!” Everyone couldn’t wait until we started. After our instructor told us the rules and what we are going to be doing a big, flattering light shone in the corner of my eye I turned to take a look and it was all of the amazing planets lined up on the wall of the inflatable. We learnt a lot of new things and after a little while we got to lay down and look up at the roof watching the billions of stars and learning about what was outside of the Milky Way. The planetarium was a great learning opportunity for everyone.

Finlay and Ivy (5/6B) described the incursion: Lining up, full of excitement waiting for a journey of joy through space…. we were filled with wonder about this awesome learning experience. We got to see our solar system and we learnt about the amazing universe. We were informed  that there where about 300 billion stars in the Milky Way. We then got to lie down and see the galaxy. We were told that Pluto was not classified as a planet! Once finished, we went back to Earth and saw light. A wonderful experience.

The content in each presentation revised and built on what had been taught in class, deepening knowledge of Space for our students. An exciting event and one that will be invited back in the future.
