Australian Seabird Rescue

On Tuesday and Wednesday, our Stage One students travelled to Ballina to explore the Australian Seabird Rescue. In class, students have been learning about the different ways people interact and care for places. The Australian Seabird Rescue in Ballina aims to reduce the human impact on wildlife through rescue, research and education. The children spent their morning participating in a variety of exciting activities. We were lucky enough to meet several turtles. Two fresh water turtles, who are permanent residents of the centre, and one sea turtle who is due to be released back into the wild within the week. The children explored the turtle hospital and learnt how volunteers catch and release injured birds. We also learnt about how even the smallest scrap of plastic can create terrible problems for sea creatures.
