Children at our school celebrated Naidoc Week with a number of activities on Wednesday, 30th June. The program began with a Welcome to Country and flag-raising ceremony with local elders, Mrs Irene Harrington and her son, Mr Sheldon Harrington. Our Aboriginal students then presented four dances before the presentation of prizes for a colouring competition.
Students then rotated through other activities which included x-ray drawings, wool twisting wrist bands, creating a message in the "sea of hands" and finally tasting some kangaroo sausages and damper. Between each of these activities, they tried some games based on traditional Aboriginal games.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to next year's activities. More photos are in the gallery.
