Science and technology

Science and technology is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In science and technology, students explore the natural and made worlds. They learn how to apply scientific and technological skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.

Science provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real world problems. The inquiry and skill-based nature of science opens doors to ideas and discoveries.

At our school, children have been using computers for a number of years. All students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 enjoy using computers and have a chance to use them many times throughout the day.

  • Our entire school is linked by a computer network controlled by a central server. This allows students to access their saved work from any computer in the school, as well as giving them high-speed internet access for research and communication purposes.
  • We have a special computer room for all classes to use. Children are learning about computers from the very basic level to some complicated publishing designs. Publishing programs help with the presentation of their work.
  • All classrooms have an Interactive Whiteboard and a number of computers for everyday use by children. The students in the junior classes like to publish and illustrate their stories or play many different games to reinforce maths and spelling skills. Older children spend time researching, publishing, creating and learning with the computers in their rooms.
