Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Music

Every class in Early Stage 1, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 at Wyrallah Road Public School has a weekly classroom music lesson with our specialist music teacher Mrs Roberts, in our dedicated music room. These lessons cover all aspects of the Music curriculum including singing, playing instruments, movement to music, musical notation and listening skills.

Mrs Roberts also coordinates a number of extra curricular activities, including instrumental lessons, instrumental ensembles, band and junior and senior choirs. Our performing ensembles represent our school at school and community functions and events, such as Relay for Life.

Dance

Dance and movement to music is incorporated into our music and other classroom programs. For our students who enjoy this area we have a number of Extra Curricular Activities for them to participate in. These dance troupes have represented our school at events such as the Lismore Musical Festival Society Eisteddfod, Far North Coast Dance Festival, Lismore Performing Arts Festival and The Schools Spectacular in Sydney.

Art

Many of our students show promising talent in Art. Many art projects are completed in our classrooms throughout the school year. Students in Stage 2 and 3 also have the opportunity to select Art as an enrichment group.

Biennial School Production

All WRPS students perform in our biennial School Production. This event provides all students with performance opportunities and celebrates student work in drama, music and dance.
