Rory Captains NSW State PSSA Cricket Team at National Cricket Championships

Rory

Last week, Rory travelled to Adelaide, South Australia to compete in the National Cricket Championships as part of the NSW State PSSA team.  Rory was selected in the team as a batsman/wicketkeeper and was also given the honour and responsibility of captaining the NSW team.  The highlight of Rory’s time in Adelaide was his unbeaten century against the Northern Territory.

Rory’s team played 5 games in total and won 3 of them convincingly against SA 1 (NSW 8/148 def SA 67), Northern Territory (NSW 4/255 def NT 72) and SA 2 (NSW 7/192 def SA 62) in the third place play off. Unfortunately, they lost by 6 runs against VIC who ended up winning the competition and lost against QLD in the semi-final on day 4. Rory captained the side and opened the batting each day. He was the second highest run scorer of the carnival trailing the leader by 4 runs, with an average of 42 and a strike rate of over 100. He was the only player at the carnival to score a century. He shared the keeping and was involved in numerous run outs and took a great caught behind on the last day. Also, NSW (boys and girls) won the combined team of the carnival.

Rory thoroughly enjoyed his time with his new friends in the NSW team. He also said that although he found the job of captaining the team a little stressful at times, he really enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity and responsibility that was bestowed upon him. Rory said “I think I did ok for a skinny kid from Lismore!”

Rory also wanted to thank WRPS for assisting in the cost of travelling to Adelaide to compete in the championships.

Rory’s efforts and achievements in cricket and other sports this year have been quite exceptional and should be celebrated by all in the school and local community.
