"Hi there I'm Lucy the Storydog and I visit Wyrallah Road Public School every Thursday morning. I'm starting to get to know a lot of kids, so I thought you might like to know a little bit about me...
I think I started out in Casino and I was what is called a "street dog" because I didn't have a real home. I did pretty well as a street dog because I have to admit, I have a good nose, I move fast and I like to hunt. In fact when I come to school I keep a look out for water-dragons and ibis, but my person, Bev, won't let me chase them. Sometimes though, they can be distracting. Anyway, I got lucky and now have a proper home with my person and she makes sure I get looked after pretty well.
I love coming to school because I really like children. I think it is because they are small and so am I. When the story starts I curl up on my rug, on the chair or on the floor, and I listen. I'm good at listening except sometimes I do forget to listen to what my person says. When our story is finished I sometimes get to do a trick. The kids who read to me like to get me to do a trick for them as well. They learn what hand signals to do and what to say so that I can understand what they want me to do.
Just one more thing, even though I'm sitting on this motor bike in the photo, I've never been for a ride because I wouldn't like the noise and I think I'd be a bit scared! A lot of loud noises can scare me, though my person tries to help me not be scared by giving me a treat. I get lots of treats when I'm well-behaved!
That's all for now. See you next Thursday."
