Premier's Debating Challenge

Last week, our two teams the Persuaders and Arguers competed in Rounds 3 and 4 of the State wide Premier's Debating Challenge for Years 5 and 6. In the first debate of the day, the Persuaders were the affirmative team against Byron Bay Public. The topic was 'that kids in Year 5 and above should get to vote in elections'. Both teams delivered some interesting arguments, but it was the Persuaders stronger arguments and manner of presentation that enabled them to win the debate. Next, the Arguers debated Bonalbo Central School. The Arguers were the negative team and the topic was 'that parents should make kids in Years 5 and 6 do 30 minutes of chores each day'. The Arguers more detailed arguments ensured their win. In the last debate of the day, the Persuaders v the Arguers. The Persuaders were the affirmative team and the topic was 'that we should force students in Years 5 and above to play one hour of sport each day after school'. Both teams presented strong arguments in a persuasive manner, however, the Arguers more detailed rebuttals enabled them to win the debate. Both teams are to be congratulated for their improved skills, ability to think broadly about a variety of topics, work cooperatively and present their ideas in a clear and persuasive manner. Thank you to our wonderful chair people and timekeepers who enabled the schools to participate in this competition. They all spoke clearly and worked cooperatively with each other and the adjudicators.

All the students were wonderful ambassadors of our school.

ARGUERS: Hayley, Skyla, Charlotte B. and Charlotte M

PERSUADERS: Madison, Sophie, Eloise and Harriet

CHAIR PEOPLE and TIME KEEPERS: Eleanor, Lucy, Georgina, Emilie and Retrouvailles
