Creative Arts Camp 2017

Swish, my paintbrush flies across my page making a beautiful artwork...

5,6,7,8, I hit the stage and the bright light shines on me as I strike my first pose...

I yell as loud as I can to get my voice to project across the loud hall...

On Sunday August 6, we arrived at the Creative Arts Camp at Lake Ainsworth, Lennox Head. We were 3 of 162 students form public schools in our region. After saying goodbye to our parents we sat in a hall anxiously waiting to find out how things were going to run in the week ahead. Luckily we found the perfect bunch of friends to share a lodge with. Friends that we got closer to as the week went by.

We started off with choir every morning, then moved onto our focus groups - Elyssa - visual arts, MacKinnon - dance and Texas - Drama. After a lot of hard work in our focus groups, we went off to our electives - we all chose visual arts where we made glorious artworks that blew the teachers away!

Every afternoon, just for fun, we all went out and about in the sun to do some traditional camp activities such as archery, beach games, kayaking and some obstacle activities. These were a lot of fun!

At night we watched and participated in talent shows performed by kids. Some were really good and some were funny. After each long and exhausting day we settled into our lodges ready for bed and preparing ourselves for yet another exciting day ahead!

At the end of the week, it all came down to one moment, the big Creative Arts Concert. Waiting downstairs we could hear parents start to arrive and take their seats and as we waited in the wings ready to perform, our hearts were racing. Our friends cheered us on and as we stepped onto the stage, the crowd went wild as we performed a drama act, dance performance and visual arts display. The concert finished with all 162 kids singing our choir songs. Afterwards there were big hugs all around - we were so happy to see our parents, but sad to say goodbye to all the wonderful friends we had made. It was a magical experience at Creative Arts Camp and we wish we could go back again!
