Premier's Debating Challenge

Last Tuesday, we travelled to Alstonville Public School for rounds one and two of the Premier's Debating Challenge for Years 5 and 6. The WRPS Arguers debated Lismore Heights with the topic " That all kids should have to learn a musical instrument from Kindergarten to Year 12" and we were the negative team. The Arguers won this debate. While they were debating, The WRPS Persuaders were also debating against another Lismore Heights team with the topic " That Primary schools should have a three-day weekend".  Like the Arguers, the Persuaders rebuttals and arguments were stronger resulting in another win for WRPS Round two saw both teams debating against experienced Alstonville Public teams. The Arguers' topic was " That Parents should never let children under 10 have any screen time" and the Persuaders topic was " That Year 5 and 6 students should watch the news for homework" . Both WRPS teams were negative and in a close decision, the adjudicators awarded the debate to Alstonville Public School.  We had lots and fun and improved our arguing skills - watch out parents! Thank you to Mr Freund and Mrs Keys for making this opportunity possible.
