Waves crash, whales breach and Wyrallah Road Public School Kinder students stand watching from Australia's most easterly point.
Last Friday two busloads of very excited Kinder students set out on an adventure to Byron Bay to discover "Whale Secrets". We began at the Cape Byron Lighthouse where we were led in our discovery of the secrets of whales through a mix of games, story, drama and an informative PowerPoint presentation about whales, their migration and history in Byron Bay. We visited the maritime museum within the lighthouse, guessed animal noises made through a didgeridoo and learnt the Bundjalung names for various sea animals. We walked from the lighthouse to Wategos spotting many seabirds and migrating whales along the way. We enjoyed our lunch by the sea and a quick play on the beach. We had a great day and thank the rangers from the National Parks and Wildlife Service for organising our visit. We were very proud of the wonderful behaviour and impressive travelling skills of our young Kinders.
